Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
“Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb” is a 1964 political satire black comedy film co-written, produced, and directed by Stanley Kubrick. The film stars Peter Sellers in three roles, including the title character. Set during the height of Cold War tensions, it satirizes the fears of a nuclear conflict between the Soviet Union and the United States.

The plot revolves around United States Air Force Brigadier General Jack D. Ripper, who commands Burpelson Air Force Base. The base houses the 843rd Bomb Wing, flying B-52 bombers armed with hydrogen bombs. General Ripper, driven by his own paranoia and sexual impotence, orders a pre-emptive nuclear attack on the Soviet Union. Meanwhile, a diverse group of political officials desperately tries to prevent Armageddon. Among them are the President of the United States, his advisors, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and a Royal Air Force exchange officer.

The film’s dark humor, sharp wit, and memorable performances by Peter Sellers and George C. Scott contribute to its status as one of the best comedies ever made and one of the greatest films of all time. It deftly tackles the absurdity of nuclear brinkmanship and the precarious balance between power and catastrophe. In 1998, the American Film Institute ranked it twenty-sixth in its list of the best American movies, and in 2000, it was listed as number three on its list of the funniest American films. Additionally, the United States Library of Congress recognized its cultural and historical significance by including it in the National Film Registry
