The Day the Earth Caught Fire (1961)
The Day the Earth Caught Fire is a British science fiction disaster film that depicts the catastrophic consequences of nuclear weapons tests on the Earth’s orbit and climate. The film follows Peter Stenning, a journalist who uncovers the truth about the global crisis and tries to save humanity with the help of his friend Bill Maguire and his love interest Jeannie Craig. The film ends with a cliffhanger, as the fate of the Earth depends on a last-ditch attempt to detonate more nuclear bombs and restore the planet’s balance. The film was released in 1961 and is considered one of the classic apocalyptic films of its era.
