SEATTLE (AP) - A street musician known to Seattle sports fans for playing the tuba and wearing funny hats outside stadiums has been robbed and beaten to death.
Police say 53-year-old Edward McMichael was attacked Saturday after midnight. Our newspaper partner, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, reports he was treated for head wounds and died Sunday or Monday at home.
Police have two juvenile suspects in custody. Gang and homicide detectives are looking for three more.
P-I columnist Robert Jamieson writes that "Tuba Man' played "Happy Days are Here Again" outside the Kingdome in 1995 when the Mariners made their postseason run, and matched other songs to the fate of the Sonics or Seahawks. He also played outside McCaw Hall on opera night

Complete Bullsh*t that stuff like that happens. Used to see him all the time after T-Bird games in Key Arena. Really nice guy that loved music. Just sad.

I see him frequently whenever I walk my dog around Seattle Center. He would always go out of his way to get some love from my dog.Seemed like a nice guy from the few times I talked to him.

Was this the guy with the white tuba? I may be getting him confused with someone else from years back that I think maybe played a trumpet and was clearly a bit mentally deficient. Used to see both of 'em (I think) outside Mariner's games. Did he have a lot of money on him that particular night or something?

I remember that dude, he used to play his trumpet outside of the opera house at the Seattle Center when they still had the big concerts there. People used to throw nickels at his head and he'd go running after them. Saw him there even as far back the Foghat show in 77. He was always there even super early in the morning when the line started forming and would play all day.
Ah the good old days with festival seating.

That's really sad, I would always give him a five spot and ask him to play the most random stuff that would pop into my mind. Even if he didn't know that well he'd still play it with all of his heart. I think one night it was Funky Town on Tuba. . . .
that sucks. . . they should shove a tuba up those kids' asses!
