News Flash - We're Not "Metal Enough"

Post by Blake NWR »

So, last night I tried submitting NWR to a site called metal-archives.com, otherwise known as "Encyclopaedia Metallum", thinking it would just be cool to have a listing. I included all required info (discography, logo, etc), but it came back as rejected due to "lack of information". I thought that was odd, so I posted on their message board. Two of the moderators came back with the following:
"According to their MySpace page, it's pretty obvious that they have released something. But I'd say it's not metal enough. Other opinions?"

"Yes, too much like Hatebreed."

Kinda funny since none of us listen to Hatebreed, and they likely just listened to the first song on our page and assumed from there. But yeah... it was mildly amusing. As much as I love metal, sometimes it can be the most close-minded genre ever. This whole "this isn't metal" or "this is TR00 metal" bullshit doesn't help anyone, and to me is a huge mark of immaturity.

We'll keep doing what we're doing, pigeonholes and stereotypes and close-mindedness be damned. My sig says it best.

But to anyone who may have felt misled by us and thought we were metal all this time, I do apologize; we didn't get that memo either. :D

The memo was sent along with the new guidelines for TPS reports, so I'm not sure how you missed it. ;)

Now you've got me interested on seeing what they'd think of us. :smoke:

That's very interesting them saying NWR sounds like hatebreed. I love Hatebreed and I love NWR but Hatebreed is East Coast Hardcore. I don't think you guys are hardcore. Not the way you growl sugar!

You guys fit pefectly in my metal category!!

Blake - I get that a lot! And not only is it close minded to metal that may have slightly different genres within it, it is also a very sexist genre. Not something I talk about much, but it seems the more I can do the less I am accepted.

Yeah, like how comments on Blabbermouth articles on female-fronted bands always have a shit-ton that rate the band on how "fuckable" the singer is... I hear ya, Charlie. Definitely doesn't make it easier for ya.

Scott... any update yet? :D

I tell people virtually the same thing. I pay attention to bands, not genres. Genres are stupid and do nothing but create attitudes like this. I guess it's good for people that aren't willing to venture outside their tiny little comfort bubbles.

And for the record, you guys are way better and heavier than a ton of shit listed on that website.

No word yet, but it's still early. Now excuse me while I wash the elitist grime off that managed to cling to me like velcro-derived poo after browsing that site.

And that is just the beginning. You can either become a bull dyke and act like a guy or be a female and get rated on how fuckable you are. I guess it just goes with the metal genre. Guys maybe need to keep the illusion that metal is a boy thing... god forbid a chick could pull off a metal riff better than them!

The name, Subjekt 2 Change, alone, should make them reject that... they'll say you sound like Korn or Mudvayne lmfao. You guys are fucking quality as fuck, though.

It's an over the top display of heterosexuality because a lot of the guys in the pit don't like admitting they're loving the physical contact with other sweaty, shirtless men.

This is just awesome!! So I plugged NW Royale as well, responding to a post already there, and got the following response.
Me wrote:I agree. There is much more variety in this band that makes them all the more entertaining to me, and I find the keys to be a nice fit into a good heavy and melodic sound.
Mod wrote:That has absoilutely nothing to do with the band's metalness. If you do not understand the purpose of the thread, at least do not make irrelevant comments, please.
and in response to another polite request (not by me) to listen again and reconsider NWR:
Mod wrote:It will not change, even after 100 further listens.

They're a happy little bunch, huh?

And thanks Vish, you made my Morning. :dsmoke:

I'm on that Metallum site from my last band, Haruspex. I don't know who originally submitted our info but when I came across it was grossly outdated due to the fact that the band had been broke up for 12 years. All I did was ask them to correct it with the updated info and they did without question. I just now checked the band's profile and was quite surprised to see that they actually have it updated with the new members (though the picture is still from when I was with them).

I really don't see where they get off saying NWR isn't "metal enough"!??? Sure, they'll turn them away yet they bring on any backwater death/grind band who just so happened to have a member with advanced enough motor-skills to operate a computer. And you know that 90% of the bands on that site are either disbanded or will most likely break up within a year of their formation. What their response should have been was "you don't fit into this narrow-minded, shallow box of what we consider to be metal".

Of course, it's their site and they're free to do with it what they will but really, who needs them anyway? I assure you, being part of their database did absolutely nothing to further our popularity or recognition.

So that's why I don't go into the pit anymore. I thought it was just because I'm old and I actually want to see the bands I pay money to see.

Under "Suggestions and Complaints"; the thread is called "Why was band x rejected/deleted?"

Scott - I saw that, haha! The polite post was from me; I was hoping to soften them up. Ah well. :D Thanks for sticking up, bro.

Lee - At the end of the day, you're right. I wasn't really butthurt that we were rejected. What really blew my mind was how close-minded they turned out to be, and that's what really got under my skin. The fact that some "inner circle" mentality exists of what is and what isn't "metal" just bugs the flying fuck outta me.

Well, the newest goings-on in our camp might REALLY piss them off then, since we were contacted by the head of a pretty prominent METAL ("zzzzomg!! teh metalz!!") label over the last week... I won't jinx anything 'til it happens, 'cause all they did was solicit our stuff, but still... it's flattering. :D

those guys are fags, who probably wore motley crue shirts when they came out w/ theatre of pain, then converted to metal when metallica came out w/ and justice for all...you know the guy on beavis and butt-head who wore the winger shirt. We all know, that metal is metal(for the sake of different styles). These are the kind of things that divide a unified metal community, and that my friends,is not metal enough for me.Fuck those cunts.I say we all shit in a bag and mail it to them, of course that might not be metal enough for them as well.

What a bunch of turdfucks.

Not impressed with the sight, doesn't even have an arcade of filth. That's an automatic disqualification for being metal.

I'll send the memo right over, obviously they didn't get the 1st one.:metalhead

Hey look, sometimes we are all "not metal enough"... well except for me, fore everything I touch turns to pure, unadulterated, death grinding, rib bruising, eye socket raping, diarrhea spraying, butt hole widening, knee cap kicking, face smashing METAL. I am by far the most metal mother fuck around, I should give lessons on this shit. I could make a fortune.

Anyway, we should submit Vulgarizer, as there is no doubt they are metal enough. Thanks for the tip.
