Mokshya are really awesome. I am going to go to the Central, Monday, just to support them. They are great guys and their music and message are really awesome. I'm hoping they will let Mokshya use their own sound guy.

I went out last night and ended up at the funhouse. I love it there. It always reminds me of an oldschool punk bar. Relaxed atmosphere and the sound and stage rock.

I drove by the Central and noticed there were just as many bikers there as ever, but they are always standing outside.

I honestly doubt the central will suffer long term, but it's demographic will most likely take a large shift in the next few months (except of course for the rider's, who as Charlie mentioned, aren't hardly ever inside for the music anywasy:cheers:).

The origination of the post was one more of frustration at the lack of courtesy given to Daniel and many of the other employees of the central with the blindsided approach of their removals. Yes, Daniel is talented, and yes, he will find another location to utilize his skills, but regardless my point stands that the way in which he was terminated was unprofessional and I don't support it.

We used to play Zak's/The Funhouse regularly, and I agree, maybe it's time to revisit that lovely beer stained two-toned floor and outdoor patio for drunken B-Ball. Good memories.... drunk guy playing puke slip-n-slide notwithstanding (Ask Allen about that story sometime).

As for Jason's comment, S2C will happily lend their support to touring bands, as we know exactly what it's like to do so without financial support outside of the band themselves. I don't think his point was to slam touring bands and their effort to get heard, as we are in the same boat, but I honestly haven't seen very many touring bands at the Central within the past few years that blew me away (not to say that I'm out as much anymore, but bear with me), whereas I have seen some amazing touring bands at other locations, like el corazon, s7, hell's kitchen, etc. The difference I notice is that I hear about the tours at these other locations ahead of time, and don't seem to hear about touring bands hitting the central until it's already past the date.

I'm a recluse alot of the time anyways, so if I do go out, I have a specific agenda, and need to know about the shows prior to getting off my lazy ass. The buzz around shows coming out of the central just don't seem to hit my radar as much anymore, I guess. So it goes.

Zaks is where I met/played with most of everyone pre-SMO days. Zaks was my love. It was outside Zaks after my old band Torsion played, that I got a voice message on my phone saying MY Los Angeles Kings just beat the mighty Detroit Redwings in the 7th game of the 2nd playoff round. Fond memory o yes.

Now it's the Funhouse. Played there and it was, fun. I like the Funhouse.

Say, whatever happened to the Hurricane? I liked that piece of shit too. I met the Myiasis guys and Semesus guys in that shit stain of a bar.
Take a picture, trick. I'm on a boat, bitch.

I've been hit up a few times by these guys on whorespace and they seem to be some hella cool people.

I was listening to some local show on the radio tonight on the way home & several of those bands were playing at the King Cobra and The Comet. Anyone ever play there? I don't think I've ever been to either venue. And what's up with the Showbox SoDo? Do they still do smaller shows? Just brainstorming. :)

Actually Val, a company called Epidemic takes care of some of the local Showbox shows, both Market and SoDo. Godmachine is playing Sodo for one of their shows on October 10th, so I'll let any of you who ask know how it was for us, I do know there are pre sale tickets, though from what I understand it's not mandatory to sell them and they do require you to sign a contract of some sort prior to the show.

Ive delt with Epidemic several times. You will be required to sell tickets. Also, you definitly need to have someone watching the front door on your behalf to count the people that pay at the door. Or you will be screwed out of some $$.

Scott just made my point for me.

I'm all about supporting "kick ass" touring bands (which is subjective in itself) who may or may not be known by anyone. Although I'm admittedly VERY VERY picky about who I like and I'm rediculously critical, I've been exposed to some awesome shit that I otherwise would not have knowledge of because they fly along outside what I would normally trek out to see. However, (like scott also said) I don't hear of these shows in advance when they're at the Central due to lack of promo outside the venue etc. (If someone doesn't frequent a venue consistently, only having fliers posted inside and no other promo won't exactly create any additional draw than the built in crowd that would be there anyway). This is why I usually end up at "kick ass touring band's" shows at El Corazon, Hells Kitchen, Studio 7, etc... Plus those venues are slightly larger and attract more of the touring bands that I'm into. I wasn't trying to be a jerk at all. I ABSOLUTELY appreciate any help we get when S2C is on tour. And although I'm a little biased, I'd say we kick ass, and we tour, but by definition wouldn't call us a "kick ass touring band" because except for markets where we have radio promo or other bands who are on the bill kicking ass on promo our draw is going to be very limited at this point.

I know you're speaking from your own experiences, but let me just say that we've NEVER had problems doing shows with Tre and Epidemic. :hippie:

Is this really what it's all about? 'Cuz you're in the wrong biz if it is... Tre puts on good shows at good venues that probably wouldn't book you otherwise. So go play a kick ass show at a decent venue, expose your band to some new people and hopefully make some new fans, sell some merch, and don't cry over a couple of fucking bucks from the door at a LOCAL show.

I bet that place would be a fantastic place to host some flavor of "xMM" where "x" is the variable. Change sucks but if its a change for the better why not brainstorm some ideas. I have nothing to do with the MMM thing but I am willing to talk to the owner/management about it hence I do a lot of computer work for the place and so on etc etc.
I totally agree that the atmosphere at the FUNHOUSE is way cool. Not only does it have a good stage and PA, it has class and flavor that most bars lack. I'm all for it and will help out anyway i can............

Its never been about money. Hell, I dont even remember the last time I actually took home money from a show. Been over a good 6 years. But when we pulled in over 700 people to a show, did ALL the promos ourselves and didnt get a cent from it, wouldnt you question whats going on?

FYI: Im not in this 'biz' anymore.

Uhhhh, Jake, I've noticed a bit of a trend, did you stop enjoying "relaxing herbal enhancements" or did the world just piss on your chi, cuz you've been a bit more....uhhhhh....dickotristic lately? heh.

Hehe... I'm not trying to be a dickotriscuit. I'm just sayin'... Tre is a stand up dude who has given a lot of bands a chance to play some bigger venues they might never get in on their own.

I think playing to 700+ people outshines a little cheddar.

I believe Will (the owner) sold it because he's leased the Roseland Grill (below the Roseland Theater); so don't lose hope yet.

I believe that is the case. Later, I'll post a picture of the guitarist from Opus Dai helping the soundguy work the board. Once that happened, the sound was much, much better. :D

It was a nice last "MMM" for me.

What a nice choice of words, Val. I don't know that I would have used the word, "helping"...More like, "Fixing" the sound, to me...lol The sound guy was really pissed that someone else got it to work when he couldn't.
