Cinema Group Home Video

Post by Darth Tanner »

Now I'm compiling a list of all titles that were released by the short-lived Cinema Group in the mid-to-late 80's. I've managed to find just a handful of them, but I'm sure there are many more out there.

Here are the ones I have so far:

#0008: Mondo Trasho
#0009: Out
#0014: Multiple Maniacs
#1047: Female Trouble
#1051: Desperate Living
#1100: Starship
#1101: Sweet Country
#1235: Jackie Chan's Police Force
#4008: Possession

Titles I've seen with my own eyes:

Zombie High
Backwoods
City of the Walking Dead
To the Devil a Daughter

Other possible titles and iffys:

Witchboard
Deadtime Stories
KGB: The Secret War
Born American
Biohazard
The Big Bet
I Was a Zombie for the F.B.I.
Ghost Story
Terminal Island
The Castle
Prey

If anyone can help me confirm more titles to the above list, that would be great. Please also include the catalog # located either on the spine or the tape label itself if you have it. Thanks.

I'm not 100% sure it's the one you want but here is Witchboard, CAT. #1096. It says Continental Video on the label but below that it says "A Cinema Group Company".

Thanks Gothbat, but for this list I'm only interested in titles that were strictly released on the "Cinema Group" label. The "Cinema Group" releases had a blue border around the front and back covers as well as the spines and the company logo was at the top (NOT to be confused with Interglobal!) If I find a picture of a CG release I'll post it as a reference. I'll still keep the catalog # you gave for WITCHBOARD though so I'll have it when I do a list for Continental. The title can still be a possible iffy though since many of the old
Continental releases (but not all of them) did turn up on Cinema Group. So keep your eyes open. Thanks again.

I've scanned my Cinema Group release of DESPERATE LIVING and posted the covers, spine and logo to give you guys an idea of what I'm looking for. I tried to make them big enough to see, but not so big that they take up the whole page. Hope this helps:

Along with JACKIE CHAN'S POLICE FORCE, Cinema Group released a batch of four or five other martial arts titles... off the top of my head I know that DREADNAUGHT and GAME OF DEATH II were in the bundle.

That logo jogged my memory and I went to take a quick look... I looked, literally, 2 tapes to the right of Witchboard and there it was, Zombie High. The catalog # for that one is 1405. I actually put my scanner away since last week so I just took a picture of the spine. If you want the cover let me know and I'll scan it once I get some space cleared and my the scanner hooked back up.

Thanks for the info on ZOMBIE HIGH gothbat, I really needed that one! If you can get me those scans at some point, that would be great. I'm guessing you have a pretty big collection of videos, no? I'd have one if I only had more money and room:)
I'm trying to remember where I saw those other three titles at. It may have been at a store that has since dumped their VHS stock:( But there is another indie store in the downtown area I haven't checked yet so they might be there. Problem is I just started a new job, so it may be a few days at least before I can head up there....

Remo - thanks for giving me those titles. If you can get the catalog #'s or any of those other titles be sure to post them. I think some other Jackie Chan movies *might* have been release by Cinema Group (i.e. MY LUCKY STARS), but I'm not 100% certain.

Nah, not really; it would be nice but I did managed to accumulate a few! Back when you could really get tapes from mom and pop video stores I was young and unemployed so I never really had any money and I'd always have to pass on the cool stuff I saw. All those stores are long gone now anyway. :/ Nowadays I'd probably be able to buy them if there was a decent place to buy them AND a place for me to store them! The only stores that sell used tapes by me are really just fronts for porn shops and they don't really get any new VHS stock. Between myself, the guy that works/worked at the better one, and his friend we cleaned that place out of the 15 or so decent tapes they had long ago. Still, I can't help walking into the occasional mom and pop video stores I see in my travels and grabbing what can. :]

Thanks for the scans Gothbat. I have to admit that even after all these years, I've never seen ZOMBIE HIGH but from reading the description on the box it sounds like an interesting movie. I've got to get my hands on it sometime.

Sorry I'm late on this, but I've been very busy with everything else lately and haven't had much time to get on here. But I still have those lists handy for when I have a chance to work on them some more:)

Thanks again.

Looking at that makes me wish that "Mondo Trasho" and "Multiple Maniacs" were already out on DVD. :(:(

No problem, glad I could help. To tell the truth, I haven't seen this movie yet either! I'm not sure where I got it but I'm pretty sure someone picked it up at a garage sale and gave it to me. One of these days... maybe after I watch the Creepshow workprint I just got. :]

Nothing to add to your list but I thought maybe you would get a kick out of these pics of the Zombie High sell sheet:
