Worst zombie movie ever?

Post by Darth Tanner »

I watched OASIS OF THE ZOMBIES the other night and thought it was probably the absolute worst zombie movie I had seen. There was very little zombie action, hardly any gore, and the zombie makeup was horribly unconvincing (one zombie was actually a skull on a stick!). Worst part is that it takes over an hour for the zombies to move into action. When they do, the whole sequence lasts less than 10 minutes and is hardly worth it. Neither is the rest of the movie leading up to that finale. Very boring with uninteresting story and characters. Not even the slightest bit of sleaze. Believe it or not seeing this made me like HOUSE OF THE DEAD a lot more. ZOMBIE LAKE and NIGHT OF THE ZOMBIES also sucked really bad, but nowhere near the level of OASIS OF THE ZOMBIES.....watch at your own risk!!!

How about the rest of you....what would you say was the WORST zombie movie you had ever seen? This could make an interesting discussion:cool:

Are we counting SOV?

I'd say Half Life was pretty bad, but Erotic Nights of the Living Dead might be the worst I've seen. though I only saw the cut boot that was circulating about 10 years ago.

Oh man...I rented that turd when it first came out about six or seven years ago and was sorry I did. It really sucked shit big time. Compared to the other movies I mentioned above this one is definitely the worst. I would see any of those again before seeing CHILDREN OF THE LIVING DEAD as it was one of the most miserable movie experiences in my life. In fact I had forgotten all about that movie until you mentioned it. But then again maybe it was better off forgotten:) Thanks for reminding me Dave:swear:

My pleasure. :)

I think it's actually on On Demand right now too, if anyone wants to check it out for free. lol

As far as the SOV ones, those are the ones I was thinking of when I said there were so many. Although I actually love it when you find one that ISN'T total garbage, or at least does something different.

Shatter Dead is an interesting one to me and one I think is worth viewing. But I've also heard some suggest it is some kind of low budget "masterpiece" and I think that's certainly going too far.

Others I seem to recall enjoying somewhat were Maplewoods and The Stink Of Flesh.

But I thought Redneck Zombies, Zombie Toxin, Dead Next Door, Raiders Of The Living Dead, Toxic Zombies, etc.. were all completely worthless.

I'm sure I've seen plenty more that I'm completely forgetting too..

Yeah, well, now that I've seen CHILDREN OF THE LIVING DEAD ("starring" Tom Savini, what a joke)? If I'd PAID to see it, I'd consider making Boll at least move over to share the top spot...

Dead Next Door has a few moments, but Redneck is really hurt by the budget. But you don't tend to like those sorta movies, so cheap versions wouldn't win you over.

Did you like Shaun of the Dead?

It was years ago that I watched it but I remember Toxic Zombies being pretty crappy. Then again, Oasis of the Zombies and A Virgin Among The Living Dead were also pretty crappy. ...and yet I now have the strange urge to re-watch both Toxic Zombies and A Virgin Among the Living Dead...
As for Redneck Zombies I'd say it wasn't that bad. I mean it was bad but the fact that there was no way to take the movie seriously made it an instant classic back in my dorm room during the college days. I honestly don't remember how many times we got loaded and popped that one in.

Make that the American version of VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD that was released by Wizard. Boy, that one was a real doozy. Heavily cut with horrible editing and the awful zombie scenes (unless I'm mistaken) are actually outtakes from ZOMBIE LAKE which are repeated every 10 minutes or so. The only redeeming feature is the hilariously bad English dub which is good for a few laughs:) But I really like the original European cut of the film that was released on DVD by Image. It restores all of the nudity and violence as well as eliminating those irrelevant zombie scenes and actually makes more sense. Yes the original version of the film doesn't have zombies (although it does involve another variation of the "living dead"....hence the title), but it is Franco's actual cut of the film and I appreciate it more with each viewing.

But if you want to go into "alternate versions" of zombie films, then I'm compelled to mention John Russo's atrocious NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION. In my book this ranks right down there with CHILDREN OF THE LIVING DEAD. NOTLD 30 is a complete travesty all the way through that pisses on Romero's classic. The newly-shot footage is horrible and ruins all of the atomosphere Romero cleverly created. Don't even get me started on that horrible new keyboard score. I saw this strictly out of curiosity back when it was released and immediately wished I hadn't. In fact I thought this atrocity was out-of-print and long forgotten, but when I was in Best Buy a few weeks ago I noticed a whole bunch of them on the shelves at a low sale price (about $7). Either Anchor Bay rereleased it or else they were trying to get rid of overstock. In any event, I feel bad for new horror fans who don't know better and pick this up thinking it is Romero's actual classic when it isn't.

Shit...I'm compelled to see REDNECK ZOMBIES just on that opinion alone. I really dig bad movies that are fun in a cheesy way and are not boring. Too bad none of the movies I mentioned above can even remotely be considered "bad but fun".

Speaking of "cheesy but fun" movies...has anyone on here seen a movie called CHOPPER CHICKS IN ZOMBIETOWN? I saw a commercial for this on the USA Network many years ago but never actually saw the movie. From what I remember it sounded like it would be bad but fun in a goofy way, but USA Network is notorius for airing crappy movies that are seldom entertaining (mostly the Troma variety). So I was wondering if anyone has seen this one and if it is worth seeking out?

Chopper Chicks is a Troma movie. It's terrible, and only to be watched if you are a Billy Bob Thornton completist.

I saw that Fear Net had Children of the Living Dead in rotation and after The Nomi Song bombed out on me and I realized that Three O'Clock High had bored me to death before the opening credits had even finished rolling, I decided I would try and brave it out so I had something new to rag on for my site. Unfortunately, no amount of warning can clearly illustrate what is ahead of you when set down the path to the world of Children of the Living Dead. The opening zombie fighting scene is one of the worst things I've ever seen. Ever. No exagerration. Savini's acting is comparable to Popeye's incoherent mumbling.

I'd like to know what John Russo was thinking when he was coordinating the entire project. He probably thought he had some kind of crowd pleaser on his hands judging just by the opening credits. Names like Alan Howarth, Savini and Bill Hinzman not to mention his own named, ...Of The Living Dead and fucking zombies. They probably thought they smashed it out of the park but this was more like being hit by a pitch.

Seriously. What a piece of shit. After Savini gets killed, I fell asleep. I suppose this explains why he's such a bitter asshole at conventions. No one ever lets him live it down.

House of the dead comes to mind. I'll take any old school zombie low budget movie over that one anyday.
