SCARY MOVIE 2........yawn!

Post by Darth Tanner »

Went to see this one today. I really loved the first film and thought it was one of the better genre offerings of last year (even if it couldn't be considered a true horror film). So I naturally went into this one hoping for more of the same cleverness. As much as I hate to say it, this one almost put me to sleep. I never knew that a horror comedy could actually be so boring. The Wayan Bros did everything perfectly right in the first film and they seemed to put very little effort into this installment. To be fair, some of the parodies (like the FINAL DESTINATION and HANNIBAL gags) were clever and got a chuckle out of me, but some of them (like the EXORCIST and CHARLIE's ANGELS spoofs) wear out their welcome. It is also really sad when the funniest part in the movie is lifted from an unfunny scene in DUDE WHERE'S MY CAR? Even more shocking is the fact that the gross-out factor has lost it's touch here. It is not as rampant as in the first film, but when it's there it just has no effect whatsoever. I would like to think it might be due to the fact that I have seen my fair share of gross-out comedies but I doubt it.

Out of all the movies I have seen this year, this one goes on my list of "not recommended" movies. This is worth watching only once, but not worth the money or effort to go out of your way to catch. Best bet is to wait for video on this one. Earlier this year, I labeled FREDDY GOT FINGERED one of the worst movies of the year, but now I'm willing to give it another look after seeing SCARY MOVIE 2. I think it is also worth noting that I liked everything else the Wayans did. IMO they shoudn't take the full blame here since never intended to do a sequel in the first place (nor have they ever done a sequel to any of their other movies), which only proves that studio execs are pulling the strings here. I wouldn't be too surprised if this is forgotten in a month. The teen-horror genre is already old hat, so the time to parody them has long passed.

man, I have been narowly avoiding this one for since it's come out. Since it's release I've been to AI and Kiss of the Dragon and both times we've almost tossed them aside for Scary Movie 2. Though I loved the first one, my spider sense can spot crap from a mile away and Scary Movie 2 has my spider sense raging. Even though I disliked AI greatly, I get the feeling I liked it a lot more than I would have Scary Movie 2. Kiss of the Dragon... well, I would have had to kill someone if I turned that one fown for SM2.

Ehhh... good for a chuckle or two, I guess. The thing was that the first SCARY MOVIE was one of the few things I actually liked last year--no way is 2001 going to be salvaged by this assembly-line sequel. I've seen worse, and that's the best I can say.

yup. saw this one the other day. there is not a word in the enlgish language that can fully describe just how awful it was. It has no concept of continuity, just a series of spoof sketches strung together.

and was I the only one who got tired of Chris Elliot's hand?
