That's the one of his that I really want to see. Is it the R2 DVD that you ordered?

HK DVD cut

Post by Jon » Thu Jun 27, 2002 3:31 pm

Word is the DVD just released from HK is missing 13 minutes. There's a Japanese disc due soon which should be complete but I'm not sure if it's got English subtitles. Media Blasters should be doing a R1 disc but it probably won't be out for a long time.

ICHI

Post by ROBERT » Thu Jun 27, 2002 3:56 pm

Saw it at the Toronto Film Festival. AWESOME film. TOO fucked up for words. It has an ending that's so psychotic, it's completely original. The less anyone tells you about this the better it is.DON'T let them tell you about the ending! It's about a manic depressive mercenary, called ONE, and his road to non-redemption.VERY violent and perverse. Avoid the Hong Kong disc, it's heavily censored.

The endings to Miike movies are always the best. Dead Or Alive stands as one of my favorite endings of all time... even though it makes no sense at all :D

Ichi is one that I've been wanting to see forever. I read an interview with the man and he said he was making a movie so violent that watching it would be harmful to the viewers mental health.

Had I not been a fan of Miike already, that alone would have been the big draw for me.

I went to see this last night and it rocked! Fudoh was my favorite of his up until this point. See now, with the ending I was like huh?!?! Made zero sense to me those last like 2 min of the film. Otherwise it was funny as hell... tons of splater... a bit rough to watch at times... but a great movie!!

This coming week starts the Japanese Outlaw Masters over at The Egyptian. Hope someone will cover me so I can see Miike's Graveyard of Honor and Visitor Q. Anyone seen these two? If so, how are they?

I saw it a couple of weeks ago in a local arthouse and liked it a LOT, way more than the DOA trilogy. The characters were just awesome, there were a lot of laugh's (at least for me) and some excellent violence. I've been eying the region 3 (cut0 DVD and bootlegs but have been holding out for a reasonably priced domestic version. See this fucker, it kicks major ass!

Miike

The closest to a definitive version of Ichi is the Dutch R2 DVD. A really nice transfer. You'll be waiting a really long time, for a domestic release for this one. The rights are still up for grabs last I heard. Same thing with Battle Royale.Maybe It'll change since Ichi is finally making some theatrical rounds.I liked every Miike film I've seen so far. Visitor Q is his Shot Video effort about a besieged family, that one day recieves an unlikely visitor that comes to stay with them. Pretty twisted, and worth seeing.

Thanks for the info on Visitor Q. Just got back from seeing it again tonight. Dunno when I'll get a chance again to see it in the theaters and uncut like this so I had to go two nights in a row.

It rocked just as much the second time around. Good times :)

Anyone see Graveyard of Honor yet? :)

I still haven't seen Dead or Alive yet :/

I can't imagine how this ever happened, but the local blockbuster is carrying a VHS and DVD copy of Dead Or Alive. I was shocked, to say the least. The movie with the sodomy/neck stab scene? The movie where the guy does the twenty foot long bump of coke? The same movie where the woman is mounted by a dog for a photoshoot?

Blockbuster is carrying this movie?

Wow...

Lies!! Why do you spew such lies?! Hehehe... j/k

I try to rent from there as little as possible... especially since in my area there are two mom and pop places I rent from and one of them even has a porn section!! I haven't seen a video store with a back room full of porn to rent or buy since the 80's. It's actually refreshing to rent there. However on the days that I actually have to rent from Blockbuster every now and they I'll have to do a double take because I see something for either rent or sale that isn't the typical censored, wholesome shit that Blockbuster is known for. I'll see it and go wow how did they manage to sneak that tape in here.

While I have mention that I haven't seen Dead or Alive yet I've read things about it here and there and it sounds just as outrageous as say Fudoh or Ichi. One of these days I"ll get my ass around to watching it :)

I just have to throw out again... Graveyard of Honor... anyone? Anyone?! Beuler.... Beuler.... :D
