Is it POSSIBLE...

to have an intelligent conversation about the gay marriage issue?

I don't understand why so many people have a problem with 2 consenting adults of the same sex getting married. For some strange reason, the opposition always brings up the ridiculous hypothetical scenario of someone wanting to marry their horse or their dog, and then drop the "where do we draw the line" statement. It's fucking ludicrous!

As a man who's been married for nearly 12 years, I can honsetly say that my way of life is in NO WAY threatened by gay marriage.

Knowing what I know about the diverse group of folks who frequent this site, this is my way of starting a fact-finding mission, and to get a TRUE understanding as to why this is such a huge fucking deal.

COMMENCE!

You wouldn't be so up on gay marriage if you knew what the queers are doing to the soil
if you look at the soil around any large US city,
where there's a big underground homosexual population. Des Moines, Iowa,
for an example. Look at the soil around Des Moines.
You can't build on it; you can't grow anything in it. The government
says it's due to poor farming. But I know what's really going on.
I know it's the queers. They're in it with the aliens.
They're building landing strips for gay Martians, I swear to
God.

If gay fuckers want the same bullshit straight fuckers have, let em!!! big pappy government should NOT be allowed to tell anyone what to do, and it keeps getting worse by the minute. Let gays get hitched!! What the hell does it matter one way or the other? everyone should be allowed to tie the knot.

words from a non liberal!

Seriously though. Let them marry. That whole 'between a man and a woman' thing is a cop-out.
It should be 2 people that love and respect each other or even just financially convenience each other if that floats your boat.

I've never understood what the big deal is. Even more so now at this point of my life. I'm going through a divorce. It obviously doesn't work for all straight couples, but it works for a lot of them too. It would be the same with gay people. I'm sure lawyers really want gay marriage legalized.

Legalize pot too.

It's one of those things where the two sides will never agree, because each side is based upon very strong core beliefs. Just like the abortion issue.

Dude, I'm sorry to hear that-- but I'm glad I campaigned against you having that vasectomy, and I hope you didn't-- you may find, like I did, that your feelings may change about having kids.

Oh yeah--and fruitbowls of legal dank should be the centerpieces at legal gay weddings. :dsmoke:

I'm sorry it happened. Didn't see it coming. I got the vasectomy and am still very glad I did. I don't need a kid to be made by me to love them and be willing to die for them, and that has already been proven to me.

Man that's too bad. But mass props for the way you embraced her child that way-- in 2 marriages and one LTR, it became very clear that I was most likely a terrible step parent "unable to bond with any child not your own" was the direct quote, although there were mitigating circumstances...

Its not my business to get into couples relationships. My $1.48 on this subject....its not my business. Everybody has rights to me, until they cross the line to do harm to others. (like brutal crimes) then that's another issue. There is bigger fish to be fried. Priorities, this should not be on the agenda, way more things important to be tasked.

peace out.

Oh yeah...this kinda pisses me off now....OUR goddamn taxes are paying these Government jackholes to sit in big wooden chairs and talk into open mic's about this in legislation????? Or is this senate? I don't even fucking care. never mind. Bastards.

Oh-- back to the topic. It is possible to have an intelligent--or at least non-belligerent, except in fun-- conversation about gay marriage on this board. Go to a Conservative christian forum, it wouldn't be so genteel--if you could get a word in before being banned.

Yes, the legal profession, particularly divorce lawyers DROOL over the prospect of legalized same-sex marriage that actually stood up to a constitutionality test in court. ALL THAT DISPOSABLE INCOME to halve up & share with your same- sex divorce attorney....

...and this is the crux of it. We pretend to have a strict separation of church and state, but we fail to mention that this separation only goes as far as we can afford to get from the money backing it. People are getting belief confused with law, and I'm just hoping nobody has to be burned at the stake before someone grabs a couple hundred thousand heads and extracts them with a deafeningly loud sucking sound before it changes.

Not only should they be allowed to get married, they should be forced, by law, to buttfuck twice a day in front of me while I jerk off in thier dumb faggot faces. If they are lesbos, they have to 69 as I take a dump on the top one's back. So let it be written....

I think gay people should be able to get married............

They deserve to be just as miserable as all of the heterosexual people that are married and divorce attorneys could sure use the added work a few years down the road.

I think that marriage is such an incredibly ridiculous insitution that I am pro-gay marriage because of that. In order to show how completely insane marriage as a concept and way of being with someone is - I want gay people to be able to get married so that they realize it too, and marriage as we know it is that much closer to coming to an end. It would be hard to explain what cancer is to someone that has never had it - and so gay people have no idea what they are getting into. Give them cancer, or I mean let them get married and then they will know and as a result of so many gay people getting married in a world where they normally do not get married, it will be exactly what marriage needs to become obsolete.

Marriage is a joke - and it is not some sacred bond between two souls and something so special that only heterosexuals can be married - marriage is a fraud and a charade made possible by two co-conspirators in the big lie and in order to illustrate that more: I am for gay marriage. Then and only then, after two guys or two women are able to get married will it become even more obvious than it is now that marriage is retarded - regardless of whether it involves a cock entering a woman's vagina or a cock entering a man's anus or two women grinding a double sided dildo against each other, etc etc

Marriage will always mean nothing in the grand scheme of things as long as infidelity (which is contrary to marriage) is not against the law. So on one hand, the state enables people to get "married" and sanctions it and certifies it on some level - but they can engage in infidelity and then the state does nothing and takes a step back. It would be like the state licensing banks and certifying them to take deposits and handle withdrawals but when the bank gets robbed or someone deposits monopoly money not doing anything.

So marriage is a form of insanity, perpetuated by two co-conspirators in a great facade and lie who have convinced themselves that their relationship is superior to people that are just together or going out and that marriage can only be for heterosexuas. I all that allowing gay people to marry does is dillute, alter and change people's attitudes and opinions of what marriage is to beging with, then it should be done.

Do not, in any way, take this as bashing:

I don't know this, so I ask...

Is there a difference between State marriage and Religious marriage?

The reason for asking, obviously, is that this issue is about legal state recognized marriages. I can find 100,000 churches that won't marry a man and a man. I can also find 100,000 churches that will. A catholic church does not consider a j.ew married to a christian, a "marriage". So obviously religions are different and don't officially recognize many other beliefs of other religions and people.

On a religious point, it's moot. On a State recognized point, personal beliefs have nothing to do with it.
