Re: Movies I WON'T be reviewing this year...

This could be subtitled "Movies I WON'T be watching this year..." by me except I have a feeling that my wife may insist on my presence while watching a rented DVD of the new Twilight. After each and every one she states how stupid they are but always insists on watching the next :)

Re: Maryland Deathfest

Do they let you bring in booze from outside? Your reports sounded like maybe they do :D Not at all, however they don't use metal detectors. I just crotch a flask, drink it, then head back to the hotel to refill during a space there are no bands i want to see. Just use common sense when hitting it a...

Re: Maryland Deathfest

I noticed from your pics that previous years looked like outdoor venues, but this year is at a place called Club Sonar and all the pics I could find were indoors, also it holds less that 2,000 people between 2 rooms total according to their website. Were the years you went roughly the same size pla...

Re: Maryland Deathfest

I used Priceline for booking last year and Expedia the year before. Not going this year as I have already seen most of the bands I would want to see so it's not worth the money for me. Should be a ton of fun for you though :) in 2009 we stayed at the Tremont Plaza which was rad and cheap, however th...

Thanks guys! Here's my brief list: (True Grit belongs here as well but since I didn't go until last night it's not there.) * indicates what I believe to be Academy Award deserving films Black Swan* – Darren Aronofsky hits another home run with this film about a ballerina driven to the extremes to ac...

Best albums of 2010

Watain – Lawless Darkness – Though this is (as usual) highly derivative of Dissection and DMDS era Mayhem this is a fantastic album. Lots of memorable riffs and lyrics/vocal passages throughout. Weapon – The Devil’s Tomb – Killer 2nd full length from the Edmonton based black/death/metal band. There ...

Hatchet 2

Caught this via Comcast On Demand last night and found it to be well worth the $4.99. If you liked the first, you'll like the sequel. Lots of blood and gore and not too serious :)

Unstoppable

Aside from some annoying cinematography at times this movie kicked ass. Very fast paced and exciting.

Re: Devil

Just saw this and thought it was pretty darn good. It was well acted and had a good pace. The 80 minute runtime seemed to force it to get down to business right away and keep it up until the end. "Devil" kind of reminded me of an extended "Twilight Zone" episode.

Re: Monsters

I liked this quite a bit but thought that the ending sucked. The less is more approach to showing the monsters worked well in this one. The scenes of the ruined countryside were particularly effective in creating atmosphere and the sound design was quite good.

Re: Buried... After.Life

Thanks Remo. I thought that "Buried" seemed like an interesting enough concept but was wondering if a full length film could keep up it's pace in the limited confines of the "set." Definitely going to check it out.

Re: Enter the Void

Minor obsession going on with "Enter the Void" here. I have been going back to bits and pieces of it (since I still have time in my On Demand rental) to to examine thoughts on what Noe was trying to say, or at least what I thought he was trying to say. It's a good sign when a movie keeps me thinking...

Enter the Void

I caught this one on On Demand (not free) today since the closest theater screening it is in Portland. I actually watched it twice. The first time was right after lunch and I was kind of sleepy so I missed quite a bit and was unable to really get into it. However some of the topics approached in the...

Thanks Remo! I'm staying home to watch movies with the wife (no set plans except for "The Walking Dead" premiere on AMC) and to give out candy to the kids.

HELL YES. Great time, Bruce Campbell gave an awesome talk and the guys below were all nice as hell. Autographs were, or course, spendy but all the guys below were happy to pose for photos for free. I only bought Romero and Reiniger autographs (had to add more to my first print Dawn novel) but Terry ...

The Horrornews Archive is really vast!

I was just perusing the archive and had forgotten just how much great stuff there is there. Over 9 years worth of material including posts from luminaries such as Jack Ketchum, Chas Balun and tons of reviews of various genre films. Good stuff, perhaps someone (with a substantial amount of editing) c...

Is this just now occurring to you? Shit, most of us have accepted the fact and have moved on. There is nothing that you can do about it, so what is the point getting fired up? Live your life, be happy, and let those dirtbags do their thing. It's been going on for a LONG time and yet we have managed...

Zombcon - Halloween weekend in Seattle

I am so out of touch with things I wasn't even aware of this until today. This sounds really cool, I think I am going to spend the majority of Saturday there. I am really looking forward to getting my novelization of "Dawn of the Dead" signed by Romero :)
